The Hit Drama Announced for Seventh Series on BBC
The acclaimed police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th season, announced by the broadcaster.
A brand new six-part series created by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, according to the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together soon."
The previous series wrapped up in 2021 with a finale that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been widespread for some time, but official word only came this week.
New Challenges for The Team
The seventh season will open with AC-12 no longer existing and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by production details.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue tasked to combat corruption within the police force.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most delicate case to date."
New Character and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer celebrated for busts of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to become a offender.
However, this investigation might serve as a intentional diversion from a larger danger still active in the background, the teaser hinted.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had so many followers track the ups and downs of AC-12 over multiple series and we are thrilled to be returning for a new installment."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in this country was thought to be over while the series was off air, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor described appearing in the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the show's success but the people I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "Obviously I'm very happy Line of Duty is back! Eager to work with Jed, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor noted: "As we count down the AC-12 return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together soon."
"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those unexpected twists and turns."
Series Legacy
Line of Duty launched in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the last decade, attracting notable actors such as Lennie James.
The BBC has not yet announced when the new season will premiere.
The finale of series six drew the long-running storyline about the search for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and producers indicated at the moment there were no plans for further series.
Nevertheless, the corporation announced on Tuesday that a seventh series is now being produced.
