Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Ignites Intense Debates Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Over the weekend, Battlefield Studios introduced a fresh playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough format but includes a few key adjustments:
- Every squad includes just eight human participants, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
- Actions performed by human gamers grant full XP, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
- Only two locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Elements like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.
So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it gives additional choices for gamers looking for different methods to have fun with the game. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, many BF6 players are mad.
Player Reactions: From Fury to Praise
"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," reads a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," says another. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," and another lists everything they believe to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this game all the time. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Criticisms and Player Feedback
Despite the support, there are valid points to complain about the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it will make wait times even longer for other modes because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. Similarly, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. So this new playlist feels like the community meeting them halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user describes this mode as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?
Should the development team has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and acting on player input. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, should analytics shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
