Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was natural for doubts to be asked about his position after a further convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth loss in 12 games, marking the club's worst streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received a lot of backing from the top,” the coach remarked.
“It's important to reverse this trend and get a victory of course but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I am OK with my role. It is not the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular conversations we have I perceive the trust. However I've not talked to them since this game yet so we'll see.”
Persistent Issues and Squad Response
Slot highlighted recurring weaknesses from his team in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder said.
“It is not good enough. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the words.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a period such as this with outcomes this poor.”
He concluded, “But we still have that badge on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we’re always going to fight.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, show everyone again the values of this club and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
