Accused Harasser Asked: 'But Imagine I Could Be Madeleine?'
A female accused with harassing Kate McCann allegedly recorded her a phone message which questioned: "what if I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, 24, who court testimony revealed has consistently declared she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are standing trial charged with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February this year.
On Monday, the court was told phone records and evidence retrieved from phones logged Ms Wandelt consistently requesting Madeleine's mother for a genetic test during 2023 and 2024.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - at the age of three during a vacation in Portugal - is one of the most publicized child disappearance cases and continues to be unsolved.
'I Don't Want Money'
One phone message, presented in court, captured Ms Wandelt stating: "I understand I'm overweight and plain like Madeleine was, but I know what I believe."
While another instance of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's answerphone said: "Suppose there is a slight possibility that I'm her? What happens next? Isn't that crucial for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I have a living here in Poland, I only wish to understand," the message continued.
The jury was told that via emails, text messages and communications, Ms Wandelt asked for a biological test, transmitted childhood photos to her phone in a effort to display a resemblance to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and asserted to have "recollections" from a youth with the McCanns.
The investigator, an intelligence analyst with the police force who compiled the evidence, informed the court there "didn't appear to be any responses" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt additionally contacted acquaintances of the McCanns, according to the communication logs.
On October 9th, 2024, Gerry McCann responded to a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "the wrong phone."
On that occasion Ms Wandelt left a recording on Mrs McCann's answerphone declaring "I will continue and I will prove my point."
The court heard the co-defendant developed a connection via internet with Ms Wandelt prior to assisting her on a trip to the McCanns' residence in that area in December 2024.
Call logs revealed Mrs Spragg had communicated through communication app to Mrs McCann to say the news outlets had characterized Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she deserved to be considered genuine in the period leading up to the trip to the village, that area, in last December.
The court was told message exchanges between the two individuals, in November 2024, discussing trying to acquire Mrs McCann's genetic material from her trash or from cutlery at a restaurant.
"We have to take action," the co-defendant advised Ms Wandelt.
On the night of the appearance to their home, the defendant dispatched a communication which expressed: "We find ourselves sat near the McCanns' house with our headlights off like detectives. I wanted to achieve this with Peter Andrew I never thought I would be involved in this with the McCanns."
The proceedings continues.
