A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as pardoning festive fowl, but the county's top official conducted a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life away from worry.”
The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The swine, contributed by a local firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The craze became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to begin the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: happy, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Annually, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
